Cumshing was located in Canton, a flourishing port/city in South China. Prior to the Treaty of Nanking (1842), export trade was confined to the port of Canton.

Maker Information:
The name for this firm was derived from early transaction records. Cumshing was very well known to American customers of the period. This firm carried items in both English and Chinese taste.

Marks:
The mark of Cumshing has been observed in various different forms. It is known to exist in the following forms:

 CS   CS with pseudo English hallmarks 
 CS with shop mark

Cumshing was known to employ a number of different workshops. Known workshop/ artisan marks are as follows:
